ELLIS (European Laboratory for Learning and Intelligent Systems) is a European AI network of excellence. It focuses on fundamental science, technical innovation and societal impact, and counts 43 ELLIS sites in 17 countries, 16 ELLIS research programs and a pan-European PhD program. ELLIS brings together leading scientists engaged in the research fields of machine learning and modern AI. ELLIS is co-funded by the Tübingen AI Center, one of five German national Centers of excellence for research on artificial intelligence.

Roles & Responsibilities

As a member of the ELLIS Administration and Communications Area, you will:

  • contribute to the development and implementation of the ELLIS communication strategy
  • plan and implement communication activities for internal and external stakeholders, and communicate them via different channels such as the website, social media and the newsletter
  • collect, structure and disseminate scientific key data and information from the ELLIS network to promote the scientific impact of ELLIS
  • coordinate cross-network events (e.g. conferences, poster sessions) and other (scientific) activities in collaboration with ELLIS sites and partners across Europe
  • prepare reports, web articles and presentations about the activities and the scientific output of the ELLIS network
  • maintain close relationships with ELLIS sites and research programs distributed across Europe to stay up to date on their scientific achievements and to keep them informed about communication activities
  • engage with media on the European level to increase awareness of ELLIS, e.g. by preparing press releases and interviews
  • support/organize VIP and scientific visits

Education & Experience

  • Completed scientific higher education (Master degree, PhD or equivalent) and an interest in modern AI; technical knowledge is a bonus.
  • Professional experience in science communications is an asset. We expect very good command of both English and German (at least C1 level).
  • We expect that candidates would be prepared to do business trips in Europe as part of their job.
  • Very strong management and organizational skills.
  • High quality drafting, editing, and proofreading skills.
  • Great interpersonal and communication skills.

You will work closely and collaboratively with scientists, research coordinators, PR officers, students, programmers, administrative staff, IT support, and central scientific facilities to help achieve the goals of the ELLIS initiative.

Salaries will be based on experience according to TVöD guidelines. An initial contract will be offered for two years, with the possibility of extension. This is a full-time position.
