The Division of Non-Thermal Astrophysics (Director: Prof. Dr. Jim Hinton) at the Max Planck Institute for Nuclear Physics in Heidelberg (Germany) offers Postdoc positions (m/f/d)
The Cherenkov Telescope Array Observatory (CTAO) is a flagship astronomical facility which will have transformational impact in the gamma-ray domain and broadly in high energy astrophysics and astroparti-cle physics. The construction of the first small (SST) and medium size telescopes (MSTs) of the southern part of CTA will soon begin in Chile. MPIK is playing a leading role in providing the Cherenkov cameras for both of these telescope types.
We are seeking a talented experimental physicist to join our team. The successful candidate will support the finalisation of the design, prototype testing, and planning for the large-scale production and character-isation of the cameras of the SSTs. The position includes significant involvement in commissioning SSTs on-site in Chile and preparing for early scientific observations. The role involves coordination with the technical as well as scientific staff of the CTAO team at the institute.
Requirements
- PhD in Physics or Electronic Engineering
- Knowledge of relevant technologies including fast electronics and photosensors
- Experience of instrument development and/or calibration and characterization
- Willingness to travel
- Experience of data analysis using python (desirable)
The position is initially offered for 2 years and can be extended.
The salary will be paid according to the collective agreement for civil service employees in Germany (TVöD).
