Partner Groups in India
These Partner Groups are aimed at Indian post docs who, having obtained their doctorate no longer than seven years ago and having spent at least twelve months at a Max Planck institute, are returning or have already returned to an Indian research institute. This is a way for both Indian scientists and the Max Planck institutes to maintain close ties.
Partner Groups are normally sponsored for a maximum of five years with MPS basic financing of € 20,000 a year, which can be used to finance for example travel, workshops, doctoral students and post docs, as well as smaller items of equipment. Only the director of a Max Planck Institute can nominate a candidate for a Max Planck India Partner Group. The President of the Max Planck Societydecides on the setting up of Partner Groups on the basis of external evaluations. Since 2005, 66 Max Planck Partner Groups have been established in India, 35 of which are still active.
