Born 1955 in Ottobeuren. Study of physics at the Technical University of Munich, doctorate at the department of Nuclear Physics and Nuclear Solid State Physics of the TU Munich (1984), German Habilitation in experimental physics (1992), Professor at the Univ. of Augsburg (1993), chair at the Institute for Experimental Physics at the Univ. of Würzburg (1997), active as women's representative from 1989 until 1997, Director ans Scientific Member at the Max Planck Institute for Metals Research, today Max Planck Institute for Intelligent Systems (since 2001). Prof. Schütz has three children. Emeritus.
