Curriculum Vitae
David Poeppel, born in 1964 at Freiburg, Germany, completed his undergraduate and graduate training (Ph.D. 1995) at MIT in cognitive science, linguistics, and neuroscience. Poeppel did his post-doctoral training at the University of California San Francisco, where he focused on functional brain imaging. From 1998 to 2008, he was a professor in the Department of Linguistics and the Department of Biology at the University of Maryland College Park, where he ran the Cognitive Neuroscience of Language laboratory. Since 2009 he has been a Professor of Psychology and Neural Science at NYU, where he has supervised research on language, speech, and hearing. In 2014, he joined the Max Planck Society as Scientific Member and Director of the Neuroscience Department of the Max Planck Institute of Empirical Aesthetics in Frankfurt Main, Germany. In April 2021, he became director at the Ernst Strüngmann Institute for Neuroscience. Since January 2022 no longer Director at the Max Planck Institute for Empirical Aesthetics. David Poeppel was a Fellow at the Wissenschaftskolleg Berlin (Institute for Advanced Studies), the American Academy Berlin, and a guest professor at many institutions.
