Born 1969. Studies in chemistry at the University of Konstanz with a scholarship by the “Studienstiftung des Deutschen Volkes” 1990–1994, Diploma 1994. PhD thesis at the University of Bochum / Max-Planck-Institute for Coal Research 1994–1996. Post-Doc at the Scripps Research Institute in La Jolla, California; DAAD/NATO fellowship 1997–1998. Habilitation at the University of Münster 1998–2004; Liebig-fellowship (1998-2000) and DFG-fellowship (2000-2004). Professor (C3/W2) at the University of Bonn 2004–2010. Full Professor (W3) at the University of Mainz (2010 - 2023). From 2019 Member of the Executive Board of the GDCh-Division of Sustainable Chemistry. Director and Scientific Member at the Max Planck Institute for Chemical Energy Conversion since 1 December 2023.
