The department of Innovation and Entrepreneurship Research at the Max Planck Institute for Innovation and Competition conducts research on the incentives, determinants and implications of innovation and entrepreneurship processes, as well as their behavioral foundations.

The department, headed by Prof. Dietmar Harhoff, invites outstanding and motivated researchers to apply as Postdocs in Economics or Management. The term of appointment is up to three years. Senior Research Fellows / Postdocs (m/f/d) in Economics / Management of Innovation

Innovation and Entrepreneurship Research

Researchers at the Institute are expected to independently carry out basic research in the fields of

  • Innovation (with a possible focus on intellectual property rights, digitalization and innovation, origins and impact of AI, science of science, organization of innovation processes, innovation policy, innovation addressing grand challenges)
  • Entrepreneurship (e.g., entrepreneurial finance, start-up acceleration, entrepreneurship education, social and inclusive entrepreneurship)
  • Behavioral Foundations (e.g., incentives for creativity, innovation motives and behavior, inventor characteristics)

They publish their work in leading academic journals. The Institute provides access to an outstanding research infrastructure, 
including large-scale databases and computing capacity for machine learning. The working language is English.

About the positions

  • The term of appointment is up to three years and starts in Fall 2025 (or earlier).
  • There are no teaching obligations.
  • The gross salary is based on the German Labor Agreement for Public Service (TVöD).

Required qualifications 

Candidates are expected to hold a Ph.D. in business administration, economics or closely related fields, or be close to finishing their Ph.D., and have a very strong background in empirical methods. We value alignment between the group’s topics and the candidate’s research agenda.
