Dennis Fink, a PhD student at the MPI in Bremen, reports on the daily life on board of the research vessel. On their latest trip the scientists made a exciting discovery: mussels that have their own on-board 'fuel cells', in the form of symbiotic bacteria that use hydrogen as an energy source.
